Hi everyone,

I am new here, apologize if it is repetitive question. I wanted to know if there's any safe foods for tongue cancer patients? My uncle is undergoing radiotherapy and his tongue/throat is very red and he now can hardly swallow without things being excruciatingly painful. Does anyone have any tips? He's quite old and losing weight rapidly so I'm very concerned for his wellbeing.

Thanks

I feel his pain. Today marks 11 months since my last day of radiation. Eating was painful and often took an hour to get it all down. Medications like Magic Mouthwash, oral lidocaine, and opiates can help a little bit.

Stick with soft foods without much texture. I relied on instant oatmeal, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs, creamy soups, etc. Boost & Ensure supplement drinks help with vitamins and minerals. Make sure he is getting enough protein daily to help him heal. There is a forum on the list with lots of recipes and ideas for getting nutrition.

I find that really cold yogurt helps.
