Hello,

I was diagnosed 2years ago with genital warts and hpv 56, just an introduction.
Also, about 2 years ago I discovered some lymph nodes swollen on my neck(lateralocervicals) , mandibular. I took a CT(where they found lymph nodes swollen also in the groin/inguinal zone, and retroperitoneal I think) and a lot of blood tests without result. My doctor just told me to keep them under control, each 6months. The size is the same in my opinion but the question is: what made those nodes swollen? I am ok, I could say I live a normal life, but this thing is keep stressing me out...
Regarding the neck ones, it could hpv made this? Because I believe I could be present also on my mouth...
I have to add that I had periodontisis, which I treated ...it could be related.
Please if you can provide a valid answer let me know, it s driving me nuts.

Welcome to OCF, Laura! Im sorry to read about all your medical issues. You are very, very fortunate to not have oral cancer which is what our website is almost entirely dedicated to. Please understand our site is made up of oral cancer patients/survivors and their caregivers... we are NOT medical professionals! That said, our members do NOT have years of medical school and/or clinical patient experience, know your entire medical history and all your other medical issues, etc. For answers to your questions its best to seek out your own doctor to help answer your concerns. Your doctor is who knows you best and should be the go-to person for any in depth conversations about your condition and the chances of picking up other more serious health concerns. If your own doctor is unable to answer your questions ask them to at least steer you in the right direction.

To partially address your questions.... Numerous things can cause lymph nodes to swell, many of them are not anything serious. Things like an infection, sickness, lupus, lymphoma, strep throat, mono, etc are all possible symptoms behind swollen lymph nodes. Having swollen lymph nodes is a very common ailment which most adults can have every once in a while without having anything as serious as cancer. As far as HPV goes, it is a very common STD which most often does NOT have any signs of symptoms. Only very few strains (usually #16 and #18) are what may have the potential to ever go on to turn into anything serious. Even a few decades after lying dormant for years can someone clear the HPV from their system frequently never knowing they even had it. Theres over 200 strains of HPV for oral cancer (OC) either #16 or #18 might turn into cancer but the odds are very slim!!! If I remember correctly out of those 2 HPV strains, only around 5% of patients will have their HPV turn into cancer. As mentioned before... patients can have HPV for many years, even decades without it ever causing any ill effects. You can click on any HPV you see within any posts to read more in depth info about HPV.

Im sorry we are not able to help you more. Best wishes!

What Christine is saying is that only doctors can give those answers ... real doctors in person. Even if anyone here actually was a doctor, it'd be impossible for them to diagnose long-distance. Too many possibilities, too many variables ... needs to be determined by someone (or several someones) you see in person. If you're not getting those answers from your doctors, I am very sorry. It's super frustrating when the folks you depend on for those answers won't or can't give them to you. Sometimes they just don't know ... they can treat the symptoms but may not know the cause. Sometimes the cause doesn't matter. Sometimes, of course, the cause matters very much.

If your doctor told you to 'keep it under control' did he give you any options on how to do that? Just keep an eye on the nodes? Special massage techniques? Anything? Following those directions would be your best bet for keeping healthy, and if he failed to give you something specific to do or look for, then ask again (or get another opinion). I had nodes removed as part of my surgery, and I do special massage to keep things flowing in that area, which is very helpful. But they can also get swollen just from ordinary illness. My family doctor's pretty good at figuring out which is which (and keeping me calm in the process). If he wasn't sure, he'd send me to another specialist. So ... my advice would be, ask more questions and ask them what they think you should be doing.

Good luck!

Thank you Kristen.
Yes, I asked questions.. I have to go to a check next month to see what the doctor thinks about it.

Good luck to you all!
