Hello everybody,

Just went for a biopsy on my tongue, left lateral front and right lateral rear. Having a real rough time waiting for results. I'm a student in the final week of the Summer semester and finding it very hard to stay focused on my studies.
I keep looking at the worst possible case scenario. I have read quite a few posts here and I am becoming very scared.

((hugs)) What information do you have? Are you and the doctors already thinking cancer, and the biopsy is to be sure, or is it totally up in the air right now? When I had mine done, it was more a surgery to remove a sore that wouldn't heal, that happened to be biopsied while he removed it ... no thought of cancer at that point. (Or I was being dense, possibly. That's been known to happen.)

If the biopsies come out positive, at least you've already found this forum. This is the best place to be to, hands down, to find folks who've been in the same scary places and can share experiences with you.

I hope everything comes back just fine, but we're all here for you either way.
Hang in there! I remember that time period when you don't know what's going on and you're imagining the worst. Just stop and breathe. Don't read into all of the posts and information about what other people have gone through when you don't know what you have going on yet. Don't freak yourself out!
Focus on your studies, wait for the biopsy report and go from there. I know it's hard not to check this site or use Dr. Google, but remember it's best to take it one day at a time.

This website is invaluable for advice, thoughts and support but remember that every patient is different and will experience their own journey.

I'm praying for you!!
Welcome to OCF, Blue! Im sorry you are going thru a scare. Hopefully you will get some good news and not need our services. If you would you are already in the very best place for info and support. We will help get you thru whatever path you find yourself on.

Try staying super busy so you dont dwell on the "what if's". Going thru waiting is the worst!!!

Please let us know how you make out. Best wishes!!!
Thanks so much, everybody. I had an ulceration that had not healed in over 2 months, I asked my dentist to take a look and she said it looked very suspect and to see an oral surgeon asap. The oral surgeon also agreed that it would need to be biopsied and they did an excisional biopsy. I am a long time (46 years) smoker and definitely have some risk there. I am supposed to hear something today or tomorrow. So we will see.
I'm so glad you got the biopsy! And don't be too scared about it taking that long before you got the biopsy. I first noticed my sore around Christmas, off and on, but who pays attention to stuff around the holidays? I finally talked to a doctor around February, who said we'd keep an eye on it ... then got referred to ENT who said we'd keep an eye on it ... then finally had surgery to remove it so it could heal fresh (which turned out to be the biopsy), which was all the way in May. And it still wasn't too bad after all. (Ignore my signature ... that was the later recurrence, most of it.)
