When my husband finally got his PEG a week (9/11) after his last chemo/radiation it came with 4 thin wires attached to 4 pads that sit under the button. Each wire has small metal ends and a white plastic disc. The student GI people said they had never seen one like that before. We don't have another GI appointment until the end of the month. IS this normal or did somebody forget to finish the job?

It sounds similar to what my PEG was like when it was first installed. It hurt like hell and was very uncomfortable. After about two weeks, I asked the doc to give me some relief so he loosened it up. Eventually I adjusted to it and to the ups and downs of maintaining the PEG. 18 months later it was removed. Some people get theirs out much sooner, but I wanted to make absolutely sure I was getting the proper nutrition so I could heal. All this is new to you now, but you will become a pro at it in no time. Just takes time and patience.
