I'm trying to regain weight. After speaking to my dietician today, she did manage to give me a guide book for fast foods. (Okay, I confess to chasing a whole lot of food cravings lately) and she gave me a site calorieking.com that could help me tally up calories at restaurants (although I wasn't able to find how many calories in the Red Lobster Outerbanks Sampler)
What I would like to know, is if any of you folks have any calorie counter guide type books that has side by side comparisons of not only restaurant foods, but also grocery brand foods.
I've been taking alot of advice from friends (like eating goofy kids cereals like Cinnamon Toast Crunch) but I'd really like some sort of book where I could at a glance figure out which cereal in the cereal aisle has the highest calorie count.
I'm assuming that Haagen Daz is the highest calorie ice cream, but it would be nice to go to the store properly informed so I don't have to squint and figure out that little tiny writing on the containers.
Most of the websites I am visiting seem to be geared for people wanting to go the opposite way of weight gain. Although it's novel to be a minority, it's a bit annoying for someone trying to cram the maximum calorie intake.

I to am trying to gain weight after two years out from dx. My normal weight was about 145 lbs.
I lost about 25 pounds after the surgery. I had a peg tube that I was inputting 8 cans of jevity along with Gatorade and trying to eat soft foods like soup etc. I gained back 20 lbs. in about eight weeks. After I had the feeding tube removed it forced me to try and eat enough to maintain and I wanted to get back to 145 lbs.
After 8 months I had a recurrance in the original surgical area (right tonsil) along with mets to both lungs. My weight would vary from a high of 139 and a low of 132.
I was aware my depression and I know it was preventing me from reaching my goal of 145. Some days I only have one smoothie a day. Just don't care to eat, its a hassal.
My on'gist told me the chemo will have a wasting effect after being on it for a year now.
Someone posted a smoothie recipe that has 1300 calories in one of them.
Smoothie:
2 cups whole milk
1 cup half & half
1 pkg. Carnation Instant breakfast
3 Tablespoons Ovaltine
2 cups Ice cream
1 tablespoon Malted milk powder
Mix in blender and serve in a chilled mug.
After talking with Brian Hill he told me I also needed protein. I purchased that at a local GNA. I have been adding the protein for about a month now. I go for chemo on Tuesday and am hoping the added protein has helped with the weight gain.
I know I have to eat more and be more disiplined in making myself input enough to meet my goal. It's like I don't really care and am just waiting for the shoe to drop.

Well, I am eating pretty good. When a food craving hits, I answer it before the craving disappears. What I crave the most though is fresh fruit and fresh salads, but know these aren't going to put the weight on.
The past couple weeks, I've managed most of a meal at Red Lobster, cheeseburgers, fries and sometimes even donuts and McMuffins.
What I'm looking for is some sort of paperback book that has food listings so that when I have choices, I can pick the highest calorie choices.
Otherwise, I'm sticking to the food cravings and celebrate any and all little bites of it that I can cram down.
Think I'm going to try the smoothies once a day anyway. At least I'm going to make some valient attempts at adding even more high calorie ice cream to the daily intake

Jen the above receipe should read 1 cup whole milk & 1/2 cup half & half. I blame it on chemo brain. I make these daily yet when I write it down I always screw it up!!!

As far as the calorie counting books try a nutrition store or a good health food store or a good book store. You should be able to find what you are looking for.
Those smoothies served in a chilled mug taste like one big milkshake.

The smoothies I made were made (and sometimes still are) from fresh banana, raw egg, full cream milk, (sometimes yoghurt is added), along with a high fibre and protein dietary supplement powder mixture, icecream, and honey. Very scrumptious, and kept me going all day, heaps of calories.
By the by, I wasn't able to eat/drink anything cold or hot for a long time... room temperature was quite sufficient, and still is.

Jen, the American Heart Assoc. usually has several calorie counter publications for people with high colosterol or heart problems. That might be a way to back into the info you are seeking. Amy

Actually Calorie King puts out it's own handy food guide. I've got a 2003 edition, it's small & slick w/good advice. You can find it at most bookstores as well as Walmart. It has a section in the back w/resturant listings.
If you're looking for massive calorie intake Stone Cold Creamery 'gotta have it' size for peanutbutter icecream is 1,020 cals! At Red Lob the big numbers are from the cheesy/buttery appetizers like the Lobster Quesadilla or fried items like mushrooms. For a big calorie meal nothing tops the Crab Alfredo.
