Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 1,940 | I received an e-mail today,part of which i have pasted below,inviting me to join a research team formed to improve the support and care of cancer patients and their carers.This has really lifted my heart as it seems such a positive way to honour robs memory and help all you guys battling on [quote] ] I am delighted to confirm that we would very much like you to join the COMPASS Consumer Research Panel and hope that you are still keen to come on board. If so, please reply to this email confirming your acceptance of this invitation. This panel is being formed at an interesting time for the COMPASS Collaborative. There is a focus on Supportive and Palliative Care research and on new initiatives covering Survivorship and End of Life Care. We believe that a high level of patient and carer involvement over the next two years will be important to help COMPASS achieve research that will eventually make a real difference to patients and carers. Recurrence June/07 died July 29th/07.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

What a great opportunity for you to share your knowledge and expertise to help patients and caregivers. I am so glad that they picked you.
If there are other members of this panel that are not familiar with this cancer or forum, I suggest you have them log in here even if they are not H&N to get some insight into the many problems facing both patients and caregivers. While our physical side effects may be different than other cancers, the emotional, financial and every day living problems are not.
I know you will do a wonderful job and how nice it is that group is addressing this problem.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.

This is great news and you will be awesome and supply some really critical knowledge and experiences that most people don't deal with. God bless you this is so needed in all countries. I have been a caregiver for multiple reasons inclusive this cancer stuff, but I also cared for my father-in-law who passed away from Alzheimer's and I'm not sure which is worse.
Good luck to you and I'm sure you will help so many more people.
