There was a post someone put in that was asking about Esophageal Scopes and I answered that I have had quite a few oer the years. I am do for one now. The surgeons nurse called today and I get it done on the 22nd of this month. Follow up is The 15th of Oct unless something shows. I had the Nissen Fundiplication in 1995 when they wrapped 1/3 rd of my stomache around my Esophagus. Then the same surgeon did Emergency surgery on my abdominal anneurysm on Aug. 15th, 1999. I don't know how, but I always seem to end up with the top in the Mediacl Field. I now have Barretts Esophagus and that is the reason for getting scoped so much. The last one was 1 month after the neck Dissection and removal of part of my tongue. This surgeon is also the guy that found out for sure that I had OC. I owe him a lot of gratitude for his caring manner.

My God Jim! What else have you gone through!?

You sure are a tough old goat...When I was first diagnosed with OC my Step-father told me, "Listen, if a man has to learn how to live by hanging from his finger nails...he'll do it!" And that was coming from a tough farmer/steel worker/lineman who had to learn a new normal from a wheelchair due to a massive stroke. We all have crosses to bear...some are just a little heavier then others.

Good luck with that exam

Hello Jim,

I was just reading about your Barrett's & that you are getting scoped often.

My husband Ken had OC 4yrs. ago. He is doing very well, I think, but he too was just diagnosed with Barrett's. Of course, his primary doctor never bothered to suggest he see a gastro doc so I made the appointment for him. After doing a biopsy, the diagnosis was confirmed. The doctor said they would do another biopsy in "3 yrs"! I said I did not feel good with that so he said "ok, in 2 yrs"!

The fact that he had oral cancer, I felt that he should be scoped much sooner. The doctor said there is no connection. Well, I contacted a doctor at Mayo and we will be seeing him the first of the year for another biopsy. If they confirm everything is ok then, I will feel much better, but to wait 2yrs., no way.

Do you think I'm over-reacting?

Ken's wife
