I haven't been on this site for a while.
I just thought I would come and share my good news, on Thursday 21st I found out that I am in remission. No more cancer for me, horay!
I am really happy but I don't think it has quite sunk in yet.
I have a quick question about PEGs - I had mine removed in May (I think) and I find that when I get hungry, or I eat too much the scar hurts. There's also a little lump underneath. Is this normal?
Anyway, I hope everyone is well.

Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 228 | Congrats on being in remission! I'm so jealous (granted I'm a little over 3 weeks out of treatment now)! I have to wait until October for my PET scan.
I still have my PEG (but I'm not using it anymore) so I don't know if this helps or not! But I have a lump under my skin around it, I'm guessing it's just scar tissue. And when I eat too much it definitely hurts and it swells around it (I had a CT scan done last week to make sure no fluid was leaking around it - still waiting on the results). So hopefully it's normal because I've got the same problems!

Stephanie, 23, SCC on the right side of my tongue, surgery on 5-19-08, over half my tongue removed, free flap constructed from my forearm, bilateral neck dissection, one positive node. Radiation (32) and chemo (carboplatin) started on 6-16-08. Recurrence 4/09 in lungs.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Marginal mandibulectomy 6/17/08 resulted in DX of Stage I SCC - gingiva (3 mm) right mandible, buccal side. Clear margins. Occasional social drinker. Smoked last cigarette in 1979. Clear pet: 12/08; 7/20/09. Yay!

Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 5,260 | Just have to congratulate you Haley. I was told I was cancer free Wed the 13th. I have trouble with sore places in my mouth when I gum whatever I am eating . I have a spot or 2 but no cancer associated with them. I am glad you posted and have been wondering how you were doing. You make us proud, being so young and full of determination. Good Job young lady.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Sister of Joe (43, non-smoker/chewer; occ. drinker). Mouth problem 3/07. Diag with Stage I 6/07. Diag with Stage IV 9/07. In EPOC at Univ of Chicago. Cisplatin/cetuximab 1/wk x 8. Then, IMRT 5x/wk x 7 and weekly chemo. Done 12/21/07. Looks good as of 4/08, 7/08, 8/08, 1/09.

That is wonderful news. I have had a PEG and several other invasions of my abdominal cavity. After a very short while these sites heal. Your insides will be OK very soon. This is like any other wound.
