Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 1,940 | I spend many hours wondering how i can be proactive in the fight against Oral Cancer,and today i made my first positive step.In the UK One week in November is designated Mouth Cancer Awareness Week,and today i contacted my local radio station whom i am in regular contact with through my job at the hospice.I have given them a brief outline about the disease and the importance of early diagnosis,oral screening and educated dentists.I am asking for a slot on the radio to bang home this message and urge people to make sure they get an oral Cancer screening test at every regular dental check up.i have also asked them to bullet punch the warning signs throughout the week.
Heres hoping they take me up on this.

Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

I remember my first TV interview and how nervous I was. It got much easier for the second one. Just answer the questions, you know all the facts.

Thanks for spreading the news. Dont worry about messing up on your interview. You know the topic very well and are a very intelligent person. Ive been on TV a couple times and thought I did terrible. They edited it and I came across as sounding pretty good.

Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 1,940 | Well i dont think i blow my own trumpet very often,but today is the exception.I am so proud of myself!!!!!I arrived at the radio station at 10.15 and after talking to the news editor for 40 minutes we recorded a short interview which will be aired on Monday.But better than that the radio station are going to run daily slots about oral cancer throughout mouth cancer awareness week,and they want to organise guest spots for relevant knowledgable people .They suggested Brian,Vinod Joshi,my dentist who sent me to the head and neck people last year,myself,and the director of the hospice.

Partial glossectomy (25%) anterior tongue. 4/6/07/. IMRT start @5/24/07 (3x) Erbitux start/end@ 5/24/07. IMRT wider field (30x) start 6/5/07. Weekly cisplatin (2x30mg/m2), then weekly carbo- (5x180mg/m2). End of Tx 19 July 07.

History Leukoplakia bx 8/2006 SCC floor mouth T3N0M0- Verrucous Carcinoma.
14 hour 0p SCC-Right ND/excision/marginal mandibulectomy 9/2006, 4 teeth removed, flap from wrist, trach-ng 6 days- no chemo/rad.
6 ops and debulking (flap/tongue join) + bx's 2006-2012.
bx Jan 2012 Hyperkeratosis-Epithelial Dysplasia
24cm GIST tumour removed 8/2013. Indefinite Oral Chemo.
1/31/16 passed away peacefully surrounded by family

Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 1,940 | Well i am lying here in my bed,feeling a mixture of shock and also incredible elation.The radio station have broken my interview up into short bullet shots and they are running as the second item headline on the news every hour.It is really hitting home the message in punchy statements,and the 8'o clock one mentioned OCF!!
I dont know if any of you will be able to pick it up on line,but the news staion is Stray FM and you can listen online at Stray news audio replay.I guess you guys will all be in bed now,But it will be running until lunchtime i think.
