The CNN program "House Calls" had a segment this weekend (Sept. 29-30) on problems of the uninsured and underinsured.

The featured case was that of Lisa Cristia of Chicago, a tongue/throat cancer survivor who is also one of three survivors featured in the American Cancer Society's new "faces of the uninsured/underinsured" advertising campaign. (There's more about her story here -- look for the headline "Rising cost of health care is causing finance fears.")

The CNN segment also listed several websites that have information to assist people without insurance (of whom we have seen too many):

www.covertheuninsured.org (from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation)

www.healthinsuranceinfo.net (from Georgetown University Health Policy Institute)

www.ehealthinsurance.com offers quotes for individual private insurance for people who do not qualify for state programs (you pay for these yourself).

In addition, 33 states have health insurance pools for people with pre-existing conditions who cannot get insurance otherwise -- www.naschip.org has information (click on States with Pools for the list).

I will add two of these to our information on insurance, one is already there. Good resources Leslie... thanks.
