One dose was put off because of low neutrophils, last one because of seriously low haemoglobin and now because of low platelets. Had a 2-unit blood transfusion yesterday. Am due more 'bloods' on Friday, to---hopefully! be followed by my last chemo--but after these set-backs, aren't getting my hopes too high! (No reason to, actually, as this is 'palliative', so will just be waiting to die then anyway!!) Anyone know if the 'ordinary' blood transfusion likely to push my platelet count up, or whether there's anything I can do to help it?? Brenda

I have e-mailed your query to a Hematologist that I know quite well. She suggested that you ask the same questions to your doctors and ask if you can recieve platelets. You can recieve transfusions that consist of plasma and platelets. Apparently, some blood donations are centrifuged and the components separated. I have no reason to believe that this is untrue as I have heard of it. It may be harder and rarer for hospital to get or may not be as stable but, it doesn't hurt to ask.
Love, Prayers and Hugs.

Main risk factor was, of course, bleeding, but I had no signs of that. This week, they have actually begun to rise again on their own, the chemo has been cancelled, but I still have numbers to ring if I notice any further symptoms! Brenda

He has also had quite a few Blood transfusions, he always has a good sleep after getting one, and feels great for 24 or so hours.... then its back to normal. Hope it helps. Sammie
