Hi folks! You know I thank you all for your information. We DID end up going in-he is safe in the hospital with grade 3 mucousitis-the Rad onc and oncologist want to wait. Whoa-what a scare. All of his labs are still normal range-even his blood cultures. He is getting the PEG tomorrow.
Has anyone had to delay treatment the start of the 4th week?
What do y'all think will happen? Do you think the tumor will come back? confused
His mouth is sloughing off-poor dude.
Was this as tough for any of you?
Hospitals are breeding grounds for problematice microbes-ugh.
Please send prayers-we are all staying in the hospital together.

You got them.
What your Dad is going through is not unusual, don`t panic.
You are right, a hospital is not a good place for people with a compromised immune system.

Encourage them to get him fixed up and home asap.

Take Care

Shawna,

I had a couple of brief delays in radiation (I didn't have chemo) -- they were delays that I begged for because of the pain and mouth sores. My RO wasn't willing to let up for more than a couple of days at most.

I agree that I wouldn't want to be in a hospital too long with a vulnerable immune system -- I hope your dad can get home soon.

Hi Shawna,

Steve here. They delayed my radiation twice to allow my mouth some rest. The hospital is a good place for your dad. They should take good carre of him. I was there twice unsceduled for my fevers. Make sure he gets up and walks around a couple of times a day. I'm glad he is getting the PEG. It will help. I doubt if there will any negative change in the tumor. Your MD's would advise you if there were. It is just a delay to let his mouth rest. I know, becasue i was there. I'm praying for him and if you want to talk, you have my number & email.

God Bless,

Steve
