Hi everyone,

My daughter, Heather, has had a lot of trouble with excessive mucous the last couple weeks. It is especially bad at night and it is impossible for her to get a good night's sleep. I just wanted to pass on some advice from Joanna that has been a big help.

She said she folds a square of gauze and puts it in her mouth. The gauze absorbs a lot of the mucous so you don't wake up gagging on it. She also suggested sleeping with your head elevated.

Heather didn't try elevating her head yet, but using the gauze has worked like a charm. It really does help. Hopefully it will help some of you also.

Hi Rosie:
I apologize for not knowing if your daughter is currently in treatment or is post treatment. But I just had a check up with my ENT surgeon and spoke with him about this problem. He gave a sample of Flonase to trial to try and control this problem. So far it has helped. I have been finished with my radiation since July 31st of 2002. I know that if he would have suggested it at an earlier time, especially during treatment, I doubt I would have tried it.

Thanks for the info. Heather is post treatment, but only barely so. She finished RAD Jan. 3rd.
