I had surgery in November 2019 with radiation afterwards. The cancer was in the floor of my mouth. Radiation ended in March of 2020. They took out 9 lower teeth which I am having replaced soon. Lately I’ve been having swallowing issues where the food gets stuck going down I am on Omprazalone but it still is getting stuck. Anyone else have esophagus issues due to radiation?

Do you have access to a barium swallowing test at your hospital? It may help your doctors determine the cause of your difficulty in swallowing and a speech and language pathologist (who usually administers these tests) may be able to give you some tips on how to make swallowing easier and tell you what not to do. Swallowing difficulties can be dangerous if liquids go the wrong way and end up in the lungs.

Hi Andy. I didn't have surgery but had radiation and chemo around the same time as your surgery (late 2019). I did a barium swallowing test (that GM Craft mentioned above) with the speech therapist about 3 weeks ago. I found it quite helpful to watch on the screen how foods of varying consistency were going down, where they were meeting resistance and how to move my throat muscles better to get it moving. The therapist also gave me exercises to build the muscle groups that had been weakened during treatment. I would suggest it.

Preliminary diagnosis of SqCC at base of tongue August 2, 2019.
Biopsy surgery on August 15
Confirmed sqcc from biopsy Aug 20 - hpv type 16
33 radiation treatments ended October 25, 2019.
3 (large dose) cisplatin treatments.
