I just happened to be watching news a few minutes ago re oral cancer on the Knoxville local station at:
http://www.wbir.com/news/article/272250/2/Oral-cancer-impacts-younger-generation

It's all about how oral cancer is being seen in younger and younger people. Then at the end, there was this quote by the person interviewing the doctor: "According to Wilson, current HPV vaccines do not guard against oral cancer. . ."

I found so many good OCF links that counter his idea that the Vaccine does not guard against oral cancer:

http://oralcancernews.org/wp/emergence-of-HPV-16-and-sexually-transmiitted-oral-cancer/
Sexually transmitted oral cancer

I also found a Medline Plus link that makes the connection between HPV and oropharyngeal cancer here:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a607016.html

I'm not sure how I should go about this or if this is something for one of the administrators to pursue. With the large anti-vaccine group that we have in this country, I am really concerned about all the children who will not be getting the protection of the Gardasil shot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, David. I think I will contact the doctor who made the statement. I went to his website and it seems he is more of a cosmetic dentist and probably not up on the latest in dental oncology.

Before deciding to contact the doctor, I had sent an email to the station with my links noted above and received today a response from Michelle Flandreau who had interviewed Dr. Wilson about the HPV vaccines not guarding against oral cancer. This is what she says:

<<As Dr. Wilson discussed in the interview, there is a link between oral cancer and HPV16. However, he explained to us that the current HPV vaccine is not designed to guard against oral cancer, which is why we included that in the segment.

I spoke with him today to help clarify his response. He said that among medical professionals, the vaccine is not touted as a vaccine specifically against oral cancer. However, he did say it could give a person some protection. But because there are many other reasons a person could get oral cancer, he said that he and other medical professionals do not want to say that it protects you from oral cancer.>>

Maybe it's a question of semantics, going from "HPV vaccines do not guard against oral cancer" to "it could give a person some protection" but what it looks like to me is that on the local station's website he is saying it does NOT protect and in his conversation with the interviewer, he is saying it DOES protect.

Meanwhile, the local station's readers are being informed that the vaccine does NOT guard against oral cancer.

Stupid Stupid Stupid people posing as broadcasters and a doctor!!!!

The vaccine was NEVER touted as a prevention of ALL oral cancer just the oral cancer caused by the virus the vaccine was designed to prevent.

All chickens have 2 legs but not all 2 legged animals are chickens.

Sorry this is NOT a matter of semantics, rather common sense.

David, I'm so glad that you are Smart, Smart, Smart!!
I was thinking of sending the interviewer a reply and would like to include the info in your second paragraph if it's ok. Love your reference to the chickens! Reminds me of my college Logics class. Thanks!
