I agree - GO FOR IT and the idea of renting or leasing it for say 6 months would seem a prudent thing to do.
I would throw that word "sensible" out the window and I would be travelling and doing just exactly what I wanted to do. You, as caregiver, will never regret doing these things with him.
Enjoy every day. My inspirational quote of the day today was "We do not remember days - we remember moments". How fitting.

go for it cruise etc... re car (lease or rent) would seem the prudent thing to do. Speaking of prudent... In Las Vegas there is a place where you can rent Ferraris and Aston Martins.
google "Vegas exotic car rental" ... and you should ask and get a discount!

My partner bought a BMW convertible a few months out of treatment and loved it. When he suggested a Harley a few months later, I bit my normal sensible tongue and thought: no matter what happens in the future he will have fulfilled a lifetime dream. He was down a week ago, thinking cancer was back but got his Harley out and kept going for short rides, which seem to really cheer him up in his darkest moments. Seeing his excitement and pride really helps me too. We have definitely adopted a 'spend as it it was your last day and have no regrets' attitude since his diagnosis, and subsequently I feel as I have a treasure trove of happy memories that it would have taken years to acquire in other circumstances.
It is funny, I have long had an academic interest in the sociology of money and its expenditure - the meanings we give to cash, and the way and we and others spend it. I think cancer really changes that. A few weeks ago we treated several of Chaz's friends to a ridiculously expensive restaurant for Chaz's 50th. One has recently had twins - an addition to 2 teenagers and is busy mapping out a financial plan for the next 20 years. Another had just had a baby and is in dire financial straights, yet another jobless after finishing a masters. When I went to the loo in the middle of the meal I found myself imagining what each of us must have thought when we looked at the prices on the menu and how cancer has affected my money lens.

They have some nifty sports cars with low miles. You should be able to resell it back into the marketplace without taking to much of a hit. You can also look at an historic car. If they are restored back to "good" but not great condition, you can buy one and sell it back into the marketplace at the same price.
I have a 77 MGB. Not historic enough to be worth a lot (about $5,000) but great fun. I've had it for years and can sell it for what I paid. I saw a well restored corvett the other day for $18,000. Without to many additional miles it could be resold into the marketplace for about the same price a year or two from now.

My idea would be to rent one for the weekends that you want to go out and live it up. This way you arent stuck with a huge bill that would make things tight. Down the road you probably wouldnt want to be burdened by another expensive vehicle. Just tires on those fancy cars cost an arm and a leg.

I posted something similar a while back regarding traveling. Since getting "permission" here to be a little reckless financially, in the last nine months we have been on three vacations and a cruise and wouldn't trade one of those days to be "ahead of the game".
Maybe you can find someone trying to get out of a lease where you can take over their remaining time. If you search on "leasing car assume" there are sites that have Porsches, Maseratis, etc. It may be more expensive than buying but that way you won't need to hassle with reselling it down the line. Did a quick look at exotic rentals and like a Porsche 911 was running about $3000/week, $1300/weekend or $450/day while you can assume a lease on the same vehichle a year or two older for $1000-1500/month. Maybe going through the hassle of reselling later wouldn't be too bad.
Whatever you decide, good luck and wishing you and your husband as many good days as possible.

I told him today what y'all were saying and read to him the messages - he's never seen this board...his comment is you do the talking and I'll do cancer...so, he's down tonight - says that maybe he'll just set aside the $ that we have and once we get all the $ together so we can pay cash, then he'll do it. Otherwise, it just wasn't meant to be. So, told him that I wouldn't go to the Grand Canyon this summer (since that's a trip I wanted), unless we could go in the Challenger. Y'all are right - I would never get rid of the car - I would hang on to it 4-ever. Thanks to everyone for all of your prayers and concern.

I have ridden motorcycles most of my life, and took a break from riding for a couple of years when I was diagnosed. Two years ago I was convinced that I would never ride again because of my leg and neck problems until a friend suggested that I should give it a try again at least, before I said " I can't". Thank goodness for him; I DID try it again, and found that " I could". Ultimately, it led to chronic motorcycle-itis...I bought my dream Harley last year. A Harley for me...a sports car for you...the memories of even one day of a dream fulfilled will make it all worthwhile, and they'll never diminish. Do it; you'll be so glad you did Wayne

My husband is also a two wheel traveler! And like you Wayne, he bought his dream Harley Davidson a couple years after his cancer treatment ended. It's interesting how "cancer" totally changes your outlook on life. I have to admit....I'm tired of being the "bitch on the back" and want to take the motorcycle course so that I can learn to ride too. I'm very excited! Hey Brian, since you live in our neck of the woods, it would be fun to go on a ride with you one of these days! We could start our own Oral Cancer Survivor Motorcycle Gang!! LOL

BLUE WITH BLACK STRIPES DOWN THE SIDE - DODGE CHALLENGER SRT-8! We worked the deal with a dealership way out in No Man's Land, TX...took us 2 1/2 hrs. to get to the dealership - Jim and I listened to music the entire trip and acted like a bunch of kids going to a Friday night football game. We left after I got off of work and the guy agreed to reopen the dealership at 9:00 pm or whenever we could get there - AND THEY DID! I just love country folk! They really go the extra mile for you...She (the car) was sitting out front waiting on us - All sparkly and brand new! We signed the paperwork, Nestle (our 4 lb. poodle) jumped in with me and the "salesman/kid" linked my cell phone to the navigation system or some system so that I can talk on my cell phone hands free! He went over all the details and I finally told him that I would read the manual and he needed to move so that Jim could drive it home. He told me that he thought it was for me and I said it was...just not right now. Jim was so excited - he has lost his voice so we couldn't talk, but I knew that this really made him happy. He is always so stoic, but his eyes were twinkling with delight; Nestle and I followed him home and even though we couldn't talk on the phone, I knew that he was jazzed, especially when he came to a stop and then sqealed the tires on take off...he wrote me a note when we got in bed and asked me "did you feel the power in her shoes"? So, we're going to name her "PJS TOY" for Paula and Jim's Toy...but we all know whose toy it really is....thanks to your words of encouragement to do this - I wouldn't have proceeded without your input.
I'm in the process of scheduling at PET as Jim has been without a voice for almost 2 weeks - - don't know why, not sure we want to know either - at least not now...
