My right ear is hurting something awful again. Same thing happen with the first and second cancer. I know I am just 2.5 weeks out of treatment, but my ear was not hurting. it has just started hurting within the last few days. Please tell me it is just from radiation. I do not go back to the ENT until the second week of March and do not get a PET scan until May. That is so far away. How do I keep myself calm until then? Any ideas? Should I see if I can get in to my ENT sooner? I know he did tell me I could come in sooner if I was concened about anything, but it so expensive to go see him all the time. It hurts so bad. Perhaps the 75 patch was masking the pain as I stepped down to 50 today, because I ran out of 75 and have not had any major pain, and with Drs orders.

You either have fluid build up, infection or both. They should give you Prednisone and/or antiboitics. Many of us had ear pain post Tx. You could rupture an eardrum. They can easily check it with an otoscope.

My ENT let me know that the eustaition tubes are affected by the radiation (they swell and become blocked or semi-blocked). This can cause normal pressure pain because the pressure is not normalizing well between the eardrum and outside pressure, or can cause severe pain if fluids back up and become infected.
He said that mild pain due to pressure imbalance should be expected but I should contact him immediately if the pain was sharp.
I take my first airplane ride after treatment tomorrow and am worried myself as my ears have bothered me for some time due to pressure imbalance.
Heading to New York City for meetings. Ill be dropping by Katzs Deli for the best pea soup on the planet.

Maybe that will help you see him and get an opinion. Ear pain on both sides wakes me a couple of times a nite and I understand you concerns Mam.. I take a swig of Magic Mouth Wash and half a perc. Then go back to sleep after they kick in.
Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw.
