What about those necklaces or bracelets that people wear to press a button to call for help if they fell or had an emergency somewhere away from the phone? Perhaps a service club - Lions, Kinsmen, etc would be able to handle the cost of such a device for this gentleman. I know several seniors with hip or heart problems who use these - work great.
