No problem, the author was quite clever in giving a misleading impression that this was a new technique offering hope to many by using phrases like [quote]"USF has the second-largest number of cases reported in the world medical literature[/quote] This obscures the facts buried in the article that the implied large number was only a grand total of 30 with 22 of those in the last ten years plus the technique has been around since 1987.
I was overly sensitive about this since I had just gotten both a phone call and a follow up touching letter from an 86 year old woman who had read my article a year ago in the Washington Post and shared her frustration about being on a feeding tube for the reasons that Jen spelled out. I was the one who jumped to the conclusion that there was new hope for the majority of us.
