Absolutely - what Christine and everyone here have said do far is important.. I'm sorry its back but you yourself said that a change in lifestyle - smoking in particular - would- could- make a difference. hopefully he will decide his life is worth fighting for- if not it may be hard to accept but try to respect his wishes if he chooses against the surgery..
