Steve's peg went in today and he is in extreme pain tonight. Is this normal? I would imagine that it would be painful and from everything I've read it should be painful but I just want to check he isn't in more pain than he should be. How did everyone else find the PEG and how long did the pain last? Thanks all in advance for your help.

We were told that it was because he was in such good shape that the installation cut through a lot of muscle. It was better after about a week. It also got him very depressed because it brought the whole experience out of 'just his mouth area' to his entire body. It was a lifesaver during the radiation/chemo though- and he is back on it now following surgery a week ago.

I now know how a butterfly may "feel" being pinned down in a glass case. As it turns out it was just too tight, you might want to check on that (give it some slack, if needed). If the pain persists check with your provider.
I referred to it as my very own Goa'uld.

It took about a week until he felt better. It was also the first time he had to use any prescription pain-killers which he generally doesn't take. He said it was a lot more uncomfortable than the neck disection and all the scoping they did at the time. You will be very thankful he had one put in. Even with the PEG in my husband lost 30 lbs. and is struggling to regain any weight. He is currently 14 weeks out of treatments.
