We are seeing our oncology surgeon, reconstruction surgeon and oncologist in next two weeks to start with Dad's surgery. The road ahead is scary and long but I thank you for the forum, your time and support.


Only daughter to 65 y.o non smker Dad with 3.2 cm Rt lower alveolar rim SCC with 4 level 1 lymph nodes, T4N2bM0- IVb. Had right mandibulectomy and neck dissection with fibular flap reconstruction 3/2009. Recieving IMRT, planned 34 Tx and Cisplatin 3 cycles since mid May 2009.

Good luck to you and your Dad and I am sure the team will make things better for your Dad which will mke them better for you.


Since posting this. UPMC, Pittsburgh, Oct 2011 until Jan. I averaged about 2 to 3 surgeries a week there. w Can't have jaw made as bone is deteroriating steaily that is left in jaw. Mersa is to blame. Feeding tube . Had trach for 4mos. Got it out April.

Anu1 am thinking of you....this website is the place to get the information. My mom started the long road in december....15 treatments done 15 to go....

IG,

Are you sure she's only going to get 30 rads? The "normal" is 7 weeks or 35 Tx's.

Age 58 at Dx, HPV16+ SCC, Stage IV BOT+2 nodes, non smoker, casual drinker, exercise nut, Cisplatin x 3 & concurrent IMRT x 35,(70 Gy), no surgery, no Peg, Tx at Moffitt over Aug 06. Jun 07, back to riding my bike 100 miles a wk. Now doing 12 Spin classes and 60 outdoor miles per wk. Nov 13 completed Hilly Century ride for Cancer, 104 miles, 1st Place in my age group. Apr 2014 & 15, Spun for 9 straight hrs to raise $$ for YMCA's Livestrong Program. Certified Spin Instructor Jun 2014.

I only had 30 radiation treatments. I had surgery and also had chemotherapy once a week for 5 weeks.


Partial Glossectomy 12/06, stage 1 SCC, right side
11/07,stage III SCC in right side of neck 12/07, Modified neck dissection,48 lymph nodes removed,neg. 1/14/08 startedChemo-cisplatin once a week for 5 weeks, Radiation everyday for 5 weeks.Finished treatment 2/15/08. Cancer returned,sugery 4/5/10.

Not saying it's never been done, that it's just not the norm. That's why I was questioning it.

Hey all. Thanks for the support. Meeting with the surgeons went well. Surgery- Right partial mandibulectomy with fibula free flap reconstruction and right neck dissection scheduled 3/27. I hope 1 month delay in surgery from time of diagnosis is not too much. Take care.
