Hello all,
I have looked into getting more life insurance and realize
how impractical that is right now. Then, I began thinking
about getting mortgage life insurance through our mortgage
company. I know this, normally, would not be the best insurance, but things aren't normal anymore. I have been cancer free
for about a year and 1/2 now and I don't know if it is as hard to get as more life insurance.
Has anyone tried this or looked into this option? It would make
me feel better if I could at least get this going, if nothing else.
Thanks for your help!
Debbie

as far as i have been told unless you are 10 yrs + since completion of treatment it is next to impossible and hugely expensive for the little available ... once the c word is in your records they are very skeptical ... and smokers thought they had it tough frown

maybe someone else has found a place but i haven't found a one that is willing ...

Finding anything affordable when you are under 5 years is just about impossible. 10 years out is better, but never as cheap as for those that have no cancer background. That's if you can find it at all. You have awhile to wait. If you think about the cost of some of this, you might be better served taking what would have been your payment and putting it into savings/investments for the future.

I know that regular life insurance is out of the question. Thank goodness I had some (and do you ever have enough)but I was
told by someone that getting mortgage insurance was almost
a plus for the lender. It is actually a help to both parties.

Usually, you get this when you first get your mortgage, not after
you have had one for awhile, like mine. I just don't want my husband to be so stuck if anything should happen. I am having
one of those times when I am thinking alot about the future of my familiy. I will get over it another day. But, I hate to call my
mortgage co and spill the beans, so to speak.
I will call someone and investigate and get back. I just thought
someone on hear might be in the mortgage business.
Thanks!
Debbie

I have a Cancer policy with Mutual of Omaha, and they have sent me 3 offers for Life Ins. At my age it is kinda of high . They know all about my cancer and they say I can't be turned down. The cancer Ins sure came in handy. Been thinking about more life ins, but I have no wife or girlfriend so why would I? The American Legion and AARP both have them thru a company too.

This is an intersting topic. I do have the mortgage insurance and also life insurance. Im wondering if you already have these things for years before you are diagnosed if that would make any difference. Anybody know if you can make changes to existing policies after having cancer. Debbie, you have me thinking now.

I don't believe an existing policy can be impacted, unless you knew you had cancer when it was issued.

Often your existing life policies will offer you the chance to increase your current coverage and if they do, jump on it as they almost never ask any medical questions. Just don't go hog wild with the amount of increase.

David,
The thing that I think of when they say no questions asked, is
that "if" God forbid, something did happen and then they
would say that could not pay because of cancer. They would
have to give back the money paid in but no insurance. Ever
heard of that?
I had not thought about calling and upping my existing policy.
Would that be chancey too? I have had it for 30 years. I think
I ask too many questions, but we will find the answers.
Christine,
Know any insurance geeks?
Thanks everybody,
Debbie

I do believe most Ins Cos have a 2 year clause , for new policies, that they can refund premiums paid. On existing Policies, they can't drop you or change the coverage. So if you have Ins and it's been in affect for more than 2 yrs, don't worry about it.
