SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

Diagnosed May 2002 with Stage IV tongue cancer, two lymph nodes positive. Surgery to remove 1/2 tongue, neck dissection, 35 radiation treatments. 11/2007, diagnosed with cancer of soft palate, surgery 12/14/07, jaw split. 3/24/10, cancer on tongue behind flap, need petscan, surgery scheduled 4/16/10

Been thinking about your post. How to wrap your head around a 2nd recurrence? Not really sure myself, we all go through this at different stages.
My 1st time I was worried and thought all was going to be OK. The 2nd time I knew I was in big trouble and started worrying about my family. Made sure my will was redone and up to date. I went through the treatment and thought I would die. It was hard, but made it through.
Some of the after affects just about drove me crazy. I am still dealing with them like everyone else. Then this last spring I was diagnosed with DCIS Breast Cancer. So went in for treatment for that.
Now, I just try and enjoy every minute doing what ever. As far as the Cancer I will just try and fight what ever comes up. I only hope it does not come back in my throat. So for today I am cancer free and hope to stay that way for years to come. No one knows their future even those who do not have cancer.
So just do the best you can. This site is a great one for help and understanding.

2004 SCC R.tip 1/4 tongue Oct. 2005 R. Neck SCC cancer/Chemo Cisplatin 2x/8wks. Rad. Removed Jugular vein, Lymph gland & some neck muscle. TX finished 1/20/06... B.Cancer 3/29/07 Finished 6/07 Bi-op 7/15/09 SCC in-situ, laser surgery removed from 1st. sight. Right jaw replacement 11/3/14. 9 yrs cancer free as of Jan. 2015
