Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 417 | I posted last week that I would be starting clinical trials today with (Xeloda & Oxalipatin), I was premature and had not listened to my Doctor. I guess I heard what I wanted to hear and shut out the part where he said, MAY BE AVAILABLE.
The trial of the two drugs ended last week with less than satisfactory results over a span of two years.
I begin conventional chemotherapy (Carboplatin and Taxotere) 6 weekly infusions then a 2 week rest and then 6 more weekly infusions,Friday morning. Then a CT scan to see if we beat the wolf away from the door.

Diagnosed May 2002 with Stage IV tongue cancer, two lymph nodes positive. Surgery to remove 1/2 tongue, neck dissection, 35 radiation treatments. 11/2007, diagnosed with cancer of soft palate, surgery 12/14/07, jaw split. 3/24/10, cancer on tongue behind flap, need petscan, surgery scheduled 4/16/10

SCC Left Mandible. Jaw replaced with bone from leg. Neck disection, 37 radiation treatments. Recurrence 8-28-07, stage 2, tongue. One third of tongue removed 10-4-07. 5-23-08 chemo started for tumor behind swallowing passage, Our good friend and much loved OCF member Minnie has been lost to the disease (RIP 10-29-08). We will all miss her greatly.

Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 417 | My doctor changed horses in the middle of the stream once again. Heopted for cisplatin and taxotere rather than carboplatin. They are both in the same family but chemically different. He also changed my dosage, from weekly to ever three weeks.
I had my first infusion today,4 hours on the Chemo-Couch.
I can tell that this stronger medication is gonna kick my butt. But I have had my butt kicked before, I ain't no virgin.
