Good Luck AzTarHeel,

As Brian stated the combo PET/CAT scan will pick up everything. My 1st scan showed activity in the surgical bed. They couldn't say what it was as it was my first pre=treatment scan. I am having the second scan this Wed. 5/19. They will be able to compare the two scans and give me a more accurate Dx. I am sending some good vibes your way. Hope all is well!!!!

Your Friend, Dan

AZTARHEEL:My first test results after rad/chemo came back with suspicious results. This 6 weeks after treatment. Went in and did the surgery and just got the report 3 days ago (Friday, 5/14). No cancer. Totally cancer free. Cured. Now, I could have spent that time between suspicious results and no cancer all worried, or doing what I normally do and wait for the final results. In neither case would the outcome have been any different. So don't worry. Let the results fall where they may and do what you have to do. Worrying won't change anything and you'll have to do whatever you need to do anyhow. My prayers go with you that the end result will be the same for you as for me. Cancer free.Regards, Kirk Georgia.

Thanks all, they told me it would be 24-48 hours before I know the results... arggg...

Actually, I'm prepared for about anything... I was pretty darn relaxed during the scan, thankfully... I actually shut my eyes for about 10 minutes and just zoned out...

I've heard enough about false positives so close to the end of treatments that this is in the back of my head if anything does come back suspicious...Will keep you posted when I hear the results... Thanks again for the prayers and "vibes"

Eric

Hi Eric,
Don't get your expectations up - you may more disturbed after your scan for all of the reasons that Brian outlined. None of my MRI's gave me ANY piece of mind, actually exacerbating my fears. It all turned out to be NOTHING and I hope and pray that yours will as well.

Maybe this is why the NCCN guidelines don't recommend any post Tx scans except for an annual chest x-ray?!

Eric,

I also would like to caution you about PET. PET is notorious for giving false positives and false negatives for cancer. It's a technology that I believe will get better like CT, but for now it's just a bit dicey. Try not to worry too much.

I rooting for you!!!

Lynn

To those of you who warned me of "false positives" I am hoping that you are right...

I got my results back this morning, and there are two "small suspicious" areas... one in a lymph node in the area that was treated with radiation... the other on the other side near my right molar...

The doctor of course said not to panic, that it could be inflamation, an infection or something like else benign. But it's suspicious enough they want me to come back ASAP for an MRI, which they say will help them get a better picture...

So, as Brian predicted, my nerves are in shambles. But as so many others have said, "It ain't cancer till they say it's cancer." so I'm hanging my hat on that big time right now...

Will keep everyone posted as we go along... Once again glad that this board exists...

Peace,
Eric

Eric,

I had a "large suspicious area" in the same spot as the largest lymph node that was cancerous and the doctor even told me because it felt so hard he was pretty sure it would require a neck dissection and most likely indicated a recurrence. It went away on the next exam/scan. Please try and be positive and it ain't cancer till the pathologist proves it.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and if there was any way I could take the burden from you, I would.

Calmness and hugs your way.

Ed

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful and quick responses... I feel a lot calmer now than I did at first...
