My general dentist made my flouride trays. As expected, they were not covered by my dental insurance. Because my oncologist asked for them, I thought my Aetna POS medical insurance would cover them, but 3 different reps told me no. Is that the norm?

Also has anyone had luck getting medical coverage to pay for the additional teeth cleanings that have been recommended? My oncologist told me to go 3 times a year. My dental insurance will cover 2 times.

No and no. Dental trays are not covered (first off they are dental not medical and the only "official" dental use for them is bleaching and whitening so they are in a "catch 22" situation). My dentist gave me mine as a gift (it would have been $200).

Dental insurance will pay for 2 cleanings a year as a rule. I go in 4 times and pay out of pocket for the other 2.
