The pharmacy bills have eaten away at my mom's credit limit. The credit card company didn't have a problem letting her go above her limit, which I appreciate, but the monthly payments are beyond manageable. I'd rather not bankrupt her, so I'm thinking that I should call the company and try to work something out. My plan is to lay the cards on the table and explain the situation. Does anyone have any advice or see any reason that I may run into problems? Thanks.
Dave

No harm in asking. My only contact was about an undeserved late fee of some humungous amount. Just calling got it reversed. I think those folks get away with as much as they can until someone complains. Go for it! | | |

Eventually the account will get sold to attornies that will settle for 50 cents or less on the dollar and often what the principle was before all of the late fees and interest. That's what I did - my credit was trashed anyway. Last month I bought 2 BMW's and refinanced the house. It was a better tactic than bankruptcy. You have to be careful with Visa and Mastercards tied to your bank account though - they can seize your bank account.
I was able to freeze the one credit card tied to the bank account and get a simple interest (9%).
