I first mentioned my tongue ulcers to my GP in May of last year. After trying to treat it for 2 weeks, she sent me to an ENT, who after sending me for Xrays concluded it was nothing but an ulcer, but would see me again in a month. Again the same thing, next appt. (was actually 3 months later). Again the same thing... he even said that there was no use taking a biopsy because it would just hurt for nothing, since he was sure it was not cancer. Meanwhile, my GP kept looking at it, and sent me for blood tests> We were trying to rule things out (such as Bechet syndrome). Although the ulcer seemed to be healing at times, it also seemed to be moving around a bit. Finally she sent me for a second opinion in December, and this quack said all I needed was to have my teeth filed down! I am not a doctor, but I knew that made no sense. I waited till after Xmas to see my GP who kind of said, well... maybe... That was it . I went to see my dentist who IMMEDIATELY got the ball rolling. He sent me next day to this tongue specialist who immediately did a biopsy, and by the next week I had the results, an apptointment, and a surgical date with one of the top surgeons in Montreal.

By the way, I confronted all three doctors, very hard with my GP because I have known her for a long time. The 2 other ENTs, I left phone messages for. The first one who had followed me for quite some time called right back, was not defensive, was kind of saying it must have changed along the way, but the second idiot never gave signs of life, or caklled me back.

I know hindsight is 20\20, but personally I am angrier with second ENT for such a stupid diagnosis, and my GP for not having pushed harder. Meanwhile my dentist, who I avoid like the plague, I now would die for. smile
