Jerry started chemo today docetaxel and carboplatin once a week for 6 weeks. He has 20 rad tx to go.So far he has lost some taste( he says if its salty he can taste it)and dry mouth. So far he has not burned they gave him radiagel for that.Right now he is bouncing off the walls.Thats from the steroids. He says he feels great!Which I also explaned to him was the steriods. Not to get off subject but my sister in law died in Jan from lung cancer with mets to the brain. She was told 2 days before thanksgiving there was nothing else they could do for her. They had her on high doses of steriods.A week later she informed me that the doctors where full of crap she felt fine and she knew she wasnt dying. Her husband called me and asked how she could feel fine and do the things she was doing if the doctors said she had 2 months at the most.I explained to him it was the steriods they give a false sense of wellness.Steriods leave your system slowly when you have taken it for a while. She crashed a week before Xmas.I really hate steriods.BACK ON TRACK NOW.The chemo did make him sick that was his worst fear.I hope he can tolerate the rest well. For tonight he is driving me nuts.

Hello Karen
Hang in there girl you have a ways to go.
I know Jerry is getting treatment and being well looked after, but, you have to be very aware of your own body too. The stress of being a caregiver is quite horrendous, I ended up resorting to Zoloft for 6 months and it was a lifesaver for me. Keep in touch and feel free to vent away.
Is he on meds for nausea? Make sure he stays well hydrated, that was what put Pete in hospital and you absolutely don`t want him in there.
Take Care
Marica

Karen, I sent you a private email today, mostly about the garden. Wish we were close enough to come buy tons of what you are growing so youall could forget it. To eccho what Marcia said, John got dangerously dehydrated also a few days ago. It's real scarey- so keep Jerry out of the heat and try to get lots of liquids in him. Amy

Karen, I had that chemo and did not get sick, but I was offered many things to help with the nausea that did not happen. I did learn that oil of peppermint, rubbed on the upper lip, under the nose, works for nausea very well. Be sure to tell the chemo nurses, or whoever you see next that he needs some anti-nausea drugs. They really do work.

If he hasn't tried Zofran for nausea from the chemo yet, I'd recommend that. That was the only anti-nausea med that worked for me when I was sick from chemo.
