I got a script today and had it filled. I take 1 TBS. three times a day. Do I take it before I eat or what? It also says "If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of this mixture do not take until you consult with your Physician. Please see bottle for list of active ingredients." Well the bottle was plain and there was not list. frown

Love and blessings,
Barbara~

It sounds to me like maybe it is some sort of "magic Mouthwash". Call your pharmasist he would know exactly what it is.

Check this link. You learn something everyday around here. http://bayloraids.org/cases/february2002/answer.shtml

There is a list of ingredients for Miles mixture in the article.

Be sure to ask whether you are supposed to swallow it or swish & spit. You may wish to ask the doctor and pharmacist both. Some of these mixtures are not meant to be swallowed.

I am amazed that you didn't get any instructions with it - I would have somebodys head for that. Even my vet makes me wait for the instructions and correct labeling on the bottle.

I had ulcers that took a long time to heal and many problems with candidiasis (thrush). Plus everyone going through this treatment has a temporariliy damaged immune system so it makes sense to me.

Oh and yes, with the lidocaine, I would use it before eating but if you swallow it, it can mess up your gag reflex so be cautious - you don't want to aspirate anything into your lungs - it can cause pnuemonia.

Oh cool Gary. I will check that out. I have to swallow mine. I do know that much since the doctor told me. He just didn't go into much detail....like when.

It tastes terrible! Blah! Did you ever swallow any of it? Yuck! eek Thank you Karen. I kinda thought that too cept there is not a thing magic about this stuff but it does work and I mean almost in minutes.

Hugs to all,
Barbara~

They gave me Nystatin when I was totally amped out on Diflucan (they claimed they never had a patient with as high or as long a dose rate that they were giving me. Although I later found out that some AIDS patients were getting up to 800mg a day of Diflucan (200mg/day was my high number).
That Nystatin stuff just gagged me, especially the orange flavored stuff. I'll take the diflucan anyday (even if excessive use cause nuetropenia - it's only temporary).

The ingredients:

Tetracycline: is a gram negative, wide spectrum antibiotic.

Nystatin: is in the "antifungal" family of drugs to treat thrush, athletes foot and other forms of fungi (I just love that word)

Lidocaine: is a topical anesthetic derived from the coca plant (AKA Cocaine) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidocaine (AKA Zylocaine)

Orabase: More complicated See: http://home.intekom.com/pharm/bm_squib/orabase.html

Remember that "The Fixx" song "One Thing Leads To Another" LOL
