Just had a right parotidectomy and now they want to radiate the entire parotid area and right neck including right tonsilar bed. Had right radical neck disection in 2002. Original dx was right tonsil SCC. I will get 7.5 weeks of radiation. Has anyone had similiar IMRT and if so what should I expect. Thank you for any of your response. I had 5 parotid lymph nodes positive for SCC. Surgery was done 7/26/04

I had IMRT to the right tonsil and lymph nodes and chemo as well. Sounds as if you already had similar rad/chemo already. Would imagine the rad will be about the same as you already experienced. The IMRT is just more of the same. The gift that keeps on giving. I'm 6 months out and still experiencing side effects. Throat, mouth, teeth, etc. Hang in there through treatment as it does end and does get better after treatment is over.

This is your old and new friend Danny Boy. Nice to hear from you again but I'm sorry you have to fight this battle for a second time. I had 33 treatments of IMRT and had one side effect. About three or four weeks into it I developed a cough. The kind where you can't surpress it. My doctor prescribed a med in pill form and it cleared up in about two weeks. I had no mouth sores, no skin burns, nothing. I was wondering if they were doing it right after reading about others trials with radiation.
Wishing you nothing but the best,
Danny Boy
