I so agree Larry...10 long years and no complaints. Our journeys here deal more with body deteriation, but it must be also hard to go thru a long time when the body is fine and the mind is not and doesn't know anyone. She sure was by his side and loved him dearly...that was obvious! Such an inspiration!

Thanks,
Debbie

Larry,

Thank you for that compassionate post and reminder that so many go through similar circumstances no matter what the disease. I have nearly wept every time I've seen Nancy on TV this week. She loved him so much. I feel so close to her, knowing exactly what she went through (but for only a short time compared to her experience).

It is so hard to watch the person you love and adore deteriorate before your very eyes. She had to watch it happen in slow motion. It is just so sad. Her strength is surely profound.

Christine

Amen to all of your comments. I believe one of the most touching things I have ever seen was the clip of her smoothing out the flag and rubbing her hand across the top of the casket. I could see her mouth moving and could only imagine the loving, tender words she was whispering to the man she stood by for almost 60 years. I shed a few tears for this incredible woman this week, too.

As a full time caregiver for almost 20 years I'm sure the time will hang very heavy.. she will be still 'on watch' but I admire her quiet dignity..

I watched an interview with Nancy on the TV programme, 60 Minutes Plus yesterday night. She talked about her relationship with Reagan for the past 50 years. They were both hit by cancer and went through a lot in their life. She said she has an extraordinary life. No words of regret or complaint and her tone was full of passion, love and fond memories. An exemplary model for us here. When cancer becomes part of our life, our life becomes extraordinary too. Nancy had the 50th Wedding Anniversary in March while I will celebrate my 25th in July. There is so much I can learn in keeping a successful marriage going.

Karen.
