Hi,
Looks like I have another recurrance. I went for a chest xray because of a cough I have and they found 2 masses in my right lung. I had a CT scan since then and now I have to go for a biopsy. I know it's not cancer till it is confirmed, but this does not look good. It has only been 7 months since the last reccurance on my tongue.
I have taken myself off the Trental. I am scared and would like to ask for you to keep me in your prayers.
Love Sharon

Sharon,

I am so sorry to hear your news. I have been coughing really bad the past few days, too, and I am so scared to go to the doctor. I have an appointment already scheduled next week and hopefully the cough will be better. I will pray for you God bless you.

Sharon,
You are most definitely in my prayers, and hopefully, it will not be cancer. Sometimes it seems like there just isn't a break.
Take care, and get around a great support system...it's what has gotton Dan and I through so far!

Sharon & Ed, (Ed glad you are going to check it out)

Please both of you keep us imformed about the results of your tests. And after discussions with your docotors, please remember there are also many different clinical trials for SCC cancers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you both,
Dinah

Certainly in my prayers also, Sharon. And like a lot of us on the Board that make me so angry. We all fight so hard, we spend some time thinking we`ve won, only to find out that it was just one battle and not the war. And as far as being scared we all know that fear seems shadow us wherever we go.........Hugs and prayers.........there are lots of us here for you.............Dee

Wow! Sharon, my heart really goes out to you. I'm in the same situation, but mine is for sure cancer. I am done with treatment, I am so tired of this. I have been dealing with leukoplakia for about 15 years, and have never smoked. It finally turned to the dark side 12/02, reoccurred 7/03, and 4/04. My cancer is really agressive.

I will pray that yours is not.

I didn't know about your cough Ed. It could be from all the high winds here in Dallas. Love this spring!

Lynn

I just found out my sister-in-law has leukoplakia lasered off of her tongue a couple of weeks ago and the oral surgeon told her to not worry about it. She emailed me the path report and it clearly said "dysplasia, mild, with hyperkeratosis" and recommended removing any lesion that was not removed and very close long term follow up. That seems a bit more than don't worry about it. I know I am a bit paranoid but I pushed her towards seeing an ENT that has significant experience treating oral cancer for follow up and a second opinion. My fear is that they did not confirm clear margins and don't have the required knowledge to properly diagnose her. Anyway, she has an appointment Monday to at least calm my fears.

I'm sure my cough is just some of the bugs going around here. I hope I didn't worry anybody.

Ed

Ed,

This is just how my cancer started. She should definately seek a second opinion and seek something preventative. I tried vitamin A for about 2 years, but that didn't help. I think there are some other vitamin A derivitives like Accutain, but she can not get pregnant. I think MDACC has something. Brett may know about it too.

Let us know the update.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you so much for all your prayers. Yesterday I got confirmation about the lung biopsy and surprise surprise it is Squamous Cell Carcinoma, same as my tongue and neck. There is a big mass on my right lung and a tiny mass on my left lung. So I am being sent for a bunch of tests to determine if the cancer has spread anywhere else. I have a bone scan next Thursday, a CT scan of abdomen next Saturday and waiting to hear about the date for a brain MRI.
If all the tests show the cancer has not spread, they will operate on both lungs since I am only 41 and in good shape. If they do find something, they will not operate.
So now I am hoping for a lung operation, Wow, what a thing to hope for!

In March I started a course to be a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. We just finished Anatomy and Physiology which was interesting, but now we are into Preventative Nutrition and it is very difficult for me to sit there and listen when they talk about cancer stuff. I am thinking of quitting school, it is too hard listening to all that now.
Love Sharon

Sharon,

I can't believe it!!! I am exactly where you are. I am 40 and have 5 lung mets, so surgery was not an option for me, but I am praying it is for you.

Were your lymph nodes negative? Mine were and I still got lung mets. Apparently they forget to tell you that these little cancer cells can travel through the blood stream too.

I too am praying for good news on all your other tests. Look on the internet for Iressa and read up on that. Take one thing at a time and don't look too far down the road.

We're here for you.

Sharon,

I hope the exclamation points I used didn't throw you off. When I said I couldn't believe, I was upset, because I prayed so hard that it would be cancer. No I'm not excited that there is one more soul who has to deal with more bad news.

Thanks for all your wonderful replies and your prayers, I will stay positive and get thru this because I am going to Vegas!! It is something that will keep me going, I can't wait to meet everyone. I feel so much better now that I have this support and I am not going thru this alone.
Thank you!

Lynn,I am sorry to hear about your mets. Yes, my lymph nodes removed from my neck where negitive, this cancer travels. It seems like yours is really on the move since your surgery was only in Nov and radiation was just this year. Thanks for the good advice, I will take one day at a time. I will pray for you too.

Hi Everyone,
Your prayers must be working! I have been thru the ringer but they didn't find any other cancer therefore I get to have the Lung Surgery. It is scheduled for June 23. I am having a Thoracotomy where they are going to cut under my right arm and get the tumor out thru my ribs. I can hardly lift my right arm due to the right neck disection, but I guess they will figure it out.
Won't know until after the surgery whether I will get chemo or radiation.

A real bummer is that I have a team of 10 friends that were joining me for the Relay For Life on June 25. I'll be in the hospital but my friends will be there walking all night for me. They are going to tape the entire event for me so I won't miss anything. I will be there next year!!

Sharon,

Thanks for the update! I'm so excited for you that I am crying right now that you have no other mets. I hope the surgery and recovery are both minimal. I'll be praying for the doctors and caregivers who'll be looking after you.

Hi Sharon,

Sounds funny to say Great News to having another operation but in this case I guess it's the right thing to say. Keep your spirits up and positive thoughts flowing - I'll be pulling for you all the way and my prayers, along with everyone else, will be loud and clear!

Hang tough! Nancy

With everyone saying "Great News" I guess I need to start looking at it that way too. Thanks!

Lynn I pray your lung mets all will all disappear without surgery. I think of you often and I know how tough it must be and you are so supportive to everyone including me. I'm pulling for you.

I just got an email from my friend Jen, that I met from this very site and she is coming to Vegas with me! Both of us had tongue cancer at the same time last year. It's something to look forward to so I'll have a quick recovery.
I think it was Ed that said it is just another walk in the park.

Love Sharon

Sharon,

That was my "walk in park", we seem to use that term quite a bit on here. I had the surgery 5/6/04 and it was not bad at all. I was only in for 2 nights. Mine was video assisted and I ended up with 4 small incisions, one of which was for node biopsies. I may be looking at more invasive surgery for the other lung, but this one was easy. Oh, I too felt luck when they told me I could have surgery. Surgery, good news, go figure!

Good luck,
Glenn

Glenn,
I'm sorry, I should have looked back on the post. I want to Thank you because that little remark as helped me make it through the last few weeks. I think my surgery is going to be more intense than you mentioned, but it will still be a "walk in the park".
I have everyone here praying for me so surgery will be successful and I will hear about those Clean Margins!
