As usual, Mike has provided you with a great deal of useful information and suggestions.
I would like to add that if it is possible for a dentist to compare previous x-rays of your husband's jaw to the new ones, that would be very helpful. These spots could be normal for him and if they have been there for a long time and have not changed, comparing the x-rays could help to show this.

Retired Dentist, 59 years old at diagnosis. SCC of the left lateral border of the tongue (Stage I). Partial glossectomy and 30 nodes removed, 4/6/05. Nodes all clear. No chemo no radiation 18 year survivor.
