was told after the fact that chemo thickens the blood. george had very bad pain in his leg that turned out to be a blood clot! he has to inject cumidan 2x a day and take the pill form as well.
we took a ride to the ocean last sunday and the doctors told him --no long drives because you risk blood clots! It would have been nice to know this before so I hope this info helps someone else.

Hello Jalpp
I find it hard to believe they would not inform you of "things to avoid" as well as side affects. I guess no one else here has experianced this as no one responded to your post of 5 days ago. This should be helpful to someone undergoing chemo treatments. Or people will read this and can respond to a similar question in the future. Do you have a name or nickname we can call you? Or do you prefer Jalpp? In the "general Board" forum there are two posts you might find helpful since you are new here. They are " To All You Newbys" and "How to get the most out of this forum". We have 2 search engines here. If you do not get a response to a question you can "search" for it. One search is of all the forums, and the other is a full site search plus a google search. Like I suggested. Read those two topics and it will help you use this site to it's full potential. Good Luck, Petey

Dear Jalpp, Hate to tell you this, but in our 2 years of dealing with the tx., there were lots of things that none of the medical folks prepared us for. We learned the hard way and found most of our answers here !! This is an area where caegiving is sooo tough- if you don't know what to anticipate, you don't have any way to be prepared. The only thing I can suggest is that you pound the Docs for information on everything they are doing and every drug that is prescribed and then you get on this forum and ask or research again about what others have experienced with the tx.I learned the hard way on many occasions that being fore-warned is being fore-armed! Hi Jalpp - I second what Amy says. My son had a very bad reaction to medication after starting the Rad treatments which caused his tongue to swell up and he had to go to the emergency room where they gave him 2 Benadryl shots and told him he could have taken the benadryl tablets at home to relieve the reaction. It does help to ask questions and ask why on everything and of course stay in touch with OCF.
