Today my husband had a feed tube inserted into his stomach. Shortly after he started to have severe pain in the right part of his chest. After a few more hours the tumor in his mouth behind his tonsil started to bleed. Morphine was given and they are watching him closely. We are still waiting for treatment to start in approximately 2 weeks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, my dad has a feeding tube since August last year. He got it after his surgery. He asked me if I had every been shot in the gut, and at the time was not thrilled about it. It took time to get used to, and seemed like a hassel. He would not be here now if it weren't for the feeding tube. He is scheduled for another surgery so he will have the tube for a while longer. I think it is better to just have it. You get your meals, fluids, and some meds.Idon't know how else we would have done things, so hang in there and good luck.

I agree with the feed tube but my husband was having severe pain. He required morphine to combat the pain. No one in the hospital ever heard of chest pain and then bleeding with a feed tube. I was thinking that the scope that was put into his nose and then down into his stomach may have caused this problem. Today the doctor at another hospital told us it is common to have chest pain with a new feed tube. She stated the pain were go away in 3 days or so and it is going away. As for the bleeding it has stopped. Food for thought. My husband received his first dose of radiation today. Doctors are saying he is quite advanced but they will try to cure him.

Good luck with the treatment, and dont forget at all times think positive .As you are a member here nothing that happens should come as a great shock to you although i have to say the reality was so much worse than all the things i had read on these boards. We have survived it all and now wait with bated breath for the day he wakes up and says he feels better.I will follow your progress with interest, and hope you use these boards as much as i have to help you through the dark days
