Dx T2N2M0 in jan 05, surg, chemo, rads, the whole shot. Started eating again after 8-10 weeks, resumed activity with partial paralyzed left shoulder. Enjoying retirement at age 63. Now, after 16 blissfull months, I hear my PET scan is pos, L tonsil. To be scoped/biop the first week in Jan. Wonder about surgical risk after max rads to the area? Can tolarate more chemo but sure don't look forward to any of this. This disease is a bummer and old age is not for sissies. Damn. EDD

Sorry to hear of your PET diagnosis but will still hold hope that the biopsy shows no cancer. Was your orginal site the right tonsil or someplace else?
After almost five years in remission, my husband was diagnosed with recurrent tonsil cancer in September. He has the neck dissection in October and has just finished 5 weeks of reirradiation and 2 cycles of Cisplatin. The treatment for the recurrence was not as tough as the original treatment in 2002. It was a different kind of radiation and targeted to a smaller area of his neck. So, even if you have to be retreated it may not be as difficult as the initial time.
Wishing you the best.
Loretta

I had a head and neck cancer surgeon tell me that operating on radiated tissue was like cutting into a cooked beef roast. I wasn't given a surgical option, only chemotherapy. Yours may be different, every case is, but prepare your self, it isn't going to be pleasant. I am currently in my second recurrence of metatastic disease. Chemotherapy may be your only resolve. It was my only option. Chemo doesn't cure it and couldn't have any more radiation. Surgeon did not mention concerns about the fact I had had radiation. I would make certain that whever is doing this is used to operating on irradiated skin.
Here's hoping the biospy comes back negative. Try to concnetrate on enjoying the holiday. Worrying won't change the results.
Take care, Eileen

Read Len's post Pet/CT 3 years out. Not all that shows up on the Pet or CT is cancer. Wait until the results are in before you assume anything.

Rads was imrtx35. Yes, I hope PET was wrong or maybe over read. But then one wonders if feeling good about a neg report might also be premature. EDD

My husband did his radiation first on a tonsil cancer. Surgeon was the one who said do the rad first. He is totally comfortable working on radiated skin if the need arises. Marg
