I am 27 years old, and I have quite chewing tobacco for almost a month now after about 2 1/2 years. Should I be worried? Every time I think there is something strange on my lip or mouth my heart skips beat!

If you keep surfing this site you're going to be worried for sure! Congratulations for quitting - don't give up.

I you think that there is something going on in your mouth then get a referal to an ENT, preferably one with cancer experience. It is all too easy for the "magic, magnifying mind" to run away with this.

Thank You! Part of the reason I posted is that I noticed a small lump on the inside of my lower lip. The surface is not discolored or sore, and it is not painful. Could this be do to anything other than cancer? I am hoping to be referred to an ENT next week, and I am curious as to what they will say. All I can do is wait for now...

Yes, there are things it could be besides cancer but you are wise to go to an ENT and have it examined. You could be biting yourself in your sleep. Many cancers and tumors are asymptomatic, i.e., have no pain -all the more reason to have it ruled out. Don't let them blow you off because of your age. Keep us posted.

Can they rule it out just by looking at it sometimes, or is a biopsy almost always required?

DW,

Many times it is possible to diagnosis a condition in the mouth without a biposy. I'll repeat what Gary has told you twice already, get an appointment and have it checked and you will probably be feeling a whole lot better.

And, congratulations on kicking your habit. Just in case you ever consider starting again just check out the following web site which was put up by one of the members here: www.outdoortexan.com . If you know anyone else that dips, refer them to the site.

Thank you guys so much. I went into urgent care last week, and the doctor took a look and said that it was nothing to worry about. He said that to follow up with my primary, and get referred to an ENT if I am still worried or if the spot becomes sore or starts to grow. I will see my TP tomorrow, but I am already feeling a lot better.
