This is my second round of this crap. My father was diagnosed 3 years ago with tonsil cancer. Did the radiation and chemo. Had feeding tube put in, is now on it for the rest of his life. I am bringing him to the doctor today for pain meds and an infection.

My new problem is with my brother. He was diagnosed yesterday with a sarcoma in his left neck muscle. Are planning on doing surgery to remove the muscle, followed my radiation. Doctor said this is a rare form of cancer. I just want to know how 2 people, father and son can be so similar in diagnosis. Do you think oral cancer can be genetic?

Please pray for these 2 great men in my life.

Thanks

VickieM

Vickie, I have no idea if oral cancer is genetic, but I do offer my sympathy for you and your family. That life is not fair is evident in so many posts to this forum. Perhaps the only good thing about this is that you are in Chicago where there is first rate medical care available. Do let us know how your family and you, too, are doing.

My ENT says that my tongue cancer did have a genetic component to it. My mother was diagnosed with tongue cancer at 32 about 20 years ago. However my mom's was more aggressive and fatal. I was diagnosed with tongue cancer at 34 but I had this "spot" since I was 33. Neither of us smoked, drank much and we were both in our early thirties when we got it. I am fortunate- mine is Stage 1 and my prognosis is good. My Dr. expects a full recovery since it did not spread anywhere and there where no lymph node involvement.

We will pray for your family and hope for a good outcome.

Female, 36 yrs. old. Stage 1 tongue cancer; no lymph nodes; surgery & radiation
