Today, I felt more like "normal" than I have in a while, but that only lasted a few hours after my shower, and now I'm back in bed...oh well...teeny teeny baby steps - huh?
Ok, this is the strange part, today I noticed that the old incision lines (from June 05 Modified Radical Neck Dissection), the skin has 'errupted' with a wierd puss that I can squeeze out.
It's not like a normal pimple or boil contents, it's more like blood plamsa, or something. Like blood and puss, it's not overwhelming, and I could likely just ignore it, but was wondering if this is just normal from all the poison and radiation, etc.

It really is little baby steps for a while. I do remember when I first started Physical therapy, the PT drained a liquid (just a tiny bit) from the incision on my neck. It had been swollen and he kind of got it to go down a bit. Not sure what the fluid was, I really can't remember the details. Take Care, Carol

When I was in the hospital post-rad with the mysterious fever, they actually did another CAT scan on my mouth and neck to be sure I wasn't feverish from some sort of abcess and the guy reading the CAT scan wrote that there was a TINY "abscess" underneath this one piece of my scar--my medical oncologist said he didn't think somehting that small could even be called an abcess--they never attempted any surgery on it (it was only one week post rad, my entire neck was still burned, and I was so sick otherwise, surgery on that tissue would have been a really bad thing unless it was absolutely necessary)but I did get a little drainage later on.
If you get much additional swelling there, or a distinct red spot, I would think you might want to have it looked at, though, just to be sure it isn't an abscess that really does need some sort of other treatment.
