Hoping someone here knows something about this. My husband who is 2 1/ years post radiation for tonsil ssc, has been suffering from sore throat for about a week. (this is the first any kind of sickness he has had since he recovered from radiation) Went to the dr Thurs. I looked in his throat that morning and it looked like kinda yellowish ulcer on side of soft palate. Went to Dr, Dr said looked like infection he probably picked up from one of our kids, so he put him on cephalexin. Been taking them since then, but this morning, it looks worse, and hurts worse and now there is white stuff all over in his throat. Any ideas? Gonna call the dr again Monday. Thanks for any ideas ya'll might have. The sore throat thing just really scared us, although he never had any symptoms with his cancer, only had the swollen node in his neck.
Thanks,
Julie

I can't speak to the yellow sore, obviously this needs to be explored carefully in the immediate future. But when suddenly you develop a white tongue, throat etc, it is usually Candida, a fungus infection that can be cured in a few days with the use of an anti fungal drug. One simple test for Candida is that it can be scraped off the surface of the tissue in most cases. This removal dosen't cure it, but it may ease your mind that it is something simple like a fungus bloom. There are some pictures of Candida in the dental section of the main site, under complications.
