Does anyone know anything about Lung cancer? Can it be cured? They stopped treatment for my mom on Tuesday for the cancer in her neck (chemo / radiation).

The doctor told me that the CT scan shows the cancer in the lungs has increased and that they would be stopping all treatment. On Monday we are meeting with the chemo doc, as this is the only way to treat the lung cancer. I dont know, but either way, he said that this would eventully take my mothers life .... and that there is no cure .. ..

Im kind of at a loss of words .. ..but thats whats been said .. I just want to know .. does any one know any thing about lung cancer, are there any other treatments or medicines? ... i think the type of lung cancer she has is .. Squamous cell carcinomas? ..

I have non-small-cell lung cancer with mets to node, jaw and adrenal gland. Mine is 'incurable'
I have had 4 cycles of carboplatin/gemcitabine therapy and my primary tumour has shrunk by more than 50%
I don't know how much longer I've got.
I am reviewed every 2 months for any palliative treatments which may help--but they ARE only palliative.
Other types of lung-cancer can be cured or halted, I believe, but your docs are the only people really to discuss it with.
I'm currently doing very well with 'palliative', so bear that in mind and try to not get too down.

I don't know much about lung cancer to answer your question. I do have "incurable" cancer though too(head & neck).
I'd like to give you some advice for when you see the doctor on Monday- please take your time and ask any questions you want, if they use terms that you don't really understand don't be afraid to stop them and say you don't understand something. Sometimes the doctors get so used to talking cancer that they forget not everyone knows all the terms.

You might want to bring along a tape recorder to tape the appointment, that way you can focus on what the doctor is saying instead of trying to remember everything. Even a little old fashioned boom box with a record button works just fine.

Hang in there, and remember that there are many people out there who are living with cancer and still enjoying their lives and generally doing well, like Brenda says.

I had Squamus Cell Carcinoma (SCC) in my lung after treatment for a tumor under my tongue. They told me that the best treatment was surgery, but that chemo would at least reduce it. With only one tumor, I had the surgery and then Carboplatin and Taxel treatments. No recurrance in almost 2 years.

I believe that some here have had lobectomies if the cancer is located in the lower lobes and RF ablation is another possibility (almost all of these Tx were done for palliative and extension of life measures). Unfortunately SCC in the lungs is not as treatable as other forms of lung cancer. As others have said, ct may slow it down and maybe even long enough for them to find a better cure or more efficacious ct protocol. It worked for Jeff though so don't give up hope.

I am very sorry to hear about your latest setback. One thing for certain - this disease is NOT about fairness.

This is also one of the reasons that all survivors have to get annual chest x-rays.

I am glad you asked that question herson, There's a possibilty that I could have it too. I go to Columbus Wed for a CScan and then right after to see the DR. Good Luck and I hope everything goes well for you.. This OC is bad enough LOL
