I thought I posted this yesterday, but it isn't in there so that proves how dumb you you get on morphine & fentenyl patches.
I made the call to go into hospice last week after a wek of CHOKE and PUKE from chemotherapy. As most of you know, I am in third matastises from SCC. My wife, 2 daughters, and one son are holding up well.
No one knows the hour of our death. I will continue to be as active as I can until that hour arrives. Currently the hospice nurses have me real comfortable, real comfortable, better living through chemistry.
It is a crying shame that our US government will not legalize canibis. I can go down the road and legally purchase a gallon of booze. My Doctors can prescribe Morhine, and other high potency pain killers. My oncologist at the VA wrote a prescription in their system for canabis Indica but because of federal law it cannot be shipped accross state lines from a conforming state to a non-conforming state. Ironically, I live 40 miles from the University of Mississippi, the only place in North America, where it is grown, under close federal supervision, for complying states and licensed intities. So the pot you are smoking, if you live in one of the 21 states that have legalized it's use for medical purposes, it comes from Ole Miss.
Sorry about getting on a soap box. But POT would make my life and death more comfortable, not to mention nutrician.
Therfore I request, if you haven't done so yet, write your congressmen and senator's, legalize canibis NOW.
Your friend
Drrell

Darrell,
I am so sorry for your news. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

If you move to California you can get medical marijuana pretty easily. It's locally grown and pretty expensive.

You can even grow your own if you have an ID card:
(d) Section 11357, relating to the possession of marijuana, and Section 11358, relating to the cultivation of marijuana, shall not apply to a patient, or to a patient's primary caregiver, who possesses or cultivates marijuana for the personal medical purposes of the patient upon the written or oral recommendation or approval of a physician.

11362.77. (a) A qualified patient or primary caregiver may possess no more than eight ounces of dried marijuana per qualified patient. In addition, a qualified patient or primary caregiver may also maintain no more than six mature or 12 immature marijuana plants per qualified patient.

Dear Darrell,

We have lived on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi since 10/04. We do love MS, but it is a rather conservative state in some ways. My husband, Michael, had a discussion about cannabis with his oncologist. His doctor definitely said it is the best thing to help with appetite and nausea. My husband has had some Marinol prescribed for his appetite and it does help, but it is not the same as the real thing. We did not know that Ole Miss was involved with its growth and distribution elsewhere. Michael and I also strongly believe that it should be available for everyone it would help medically. (FYI: Michael is a collector, buyer and seller of classic cameras.)

I am so sorry for your current situation. I hope that you can remain pain free.

Darrell,

We are here for you. If you want to talk about anything, I want to listen. BTW, I smoked after college and I don't think the gov't has any right in the pot question. I really thought by now it would be as legal as tobacco but I guess money talks. I am glad I wasn't introduced to pot in college or I'd probably still be there.LOL

Hi Darrell,
No one knows when our last day on earth arrives and although I am saddened by your post, I do feel a bit better to learn that you are now well taken care of by the hospice nurses. The days ahead can be a real challenge to you and your family but I trust every moment you spend with them will be meaningful and precious. Take care,

Darrell,

So sorry to hear , But I am glad you are with the people who love you the most and have hospice to help you . I wasnt aware of Marijuna being so benificial..( never e xperienced it on any level ) So what exactly can it do for you and I cant believe the gov't wont allow somthing that can help suffering ! ( I mean I know they do , just not right ). DO you know if NY allows this or where I could find out ? And I would be more then willing to write to the senators and congressmen on this issue or any issue that can make some one who is suffering with this disease quality of life better ! May peace be with you and your family during this time and forever !

Darrell,
Your contributions to this forum have created a strong sense of bonding with you. You have inspired and been admired. You've shown how every new development, good or bad, has been an opportunity to gain a new perspective.

I too, had been wondering where you were and kept looking for a post from you.

I agree you have the right to a organic plant Mother Nature provides that gives you comfort. Political B.S. that it's ok in one state and not another. I'll write to the Congressman as you requested.

Darrell, you taught us that nearly all food is blendable when on a feeding tube for life. Is there anything you would like that I could make for you? Soup, seafood chowder, cookies, brownies?
If you want to talk, I want to listen too. Post, email, PM, whatever.

Thanks for sharing and caring. I am doing well with hospice, they see to my every need or want. Today they brought me a vacuum machine and a shower chair. As you all know Mucocitis is terrible plus now there's brown GOO coming from my left lung, the vacuum machine is a Godsend.
The flowering Herb thing has been solved, so the Shower Chair will keep me off of the bathroom floor should I stagger or fall. LOL.
Thanks so very much for caring.

Darrell,

I must say I am very proud of you for sticking to your beliefs even in your hour of great sorrow.

I too am a believer in Medical MJ. It really, really helped me thru the treatment.

When I was first diagnosed a fellow HNC survivor from the Bay Area told me it helped him with appetite, nausea, pain. He said I could get it with a prescription in the form of candies, muffins, etc.

Living in IL made that difficult, but I still had a few friends that were stonies as we all do. Lets face it a lot of people smoke pot. They were able to obtain some for me.

Well, I pulled a few recipes off the internet and made a Huge batch of brownies. I gotta say, my treatment changed drastically from that point forward. I eased back 80-90% on the pain meds, I still had diarrhea but the vomiting stopped, I mean stopped, my appetite came back, even with a severely damaged throat I was able to eat.

As I stated it helped me a lot. I am not telling others to do that, just how it helped me.

Also, since I don

Hello Darrell,
I also am a newcomer. And You are giving me STRENGTH!
I'm glad you got your weed, because I was gonna help on that one. I have not smoked in years but it's available.
In 1984 I lost my BEST FREIND to testicular cancer. My youngest son has his full name with my last name. I lived in N.J. at the time.
I would bring him an ounce every week to SLOAN-KETTERING in N.Y.C. It would take away his nausia, and give him an appetite. The hospital did not openly condone it, but they looked the other way. My freinds floor was for chomo, and you could smell weed everywhere. They were allowed to smoked it right in their rooms.
Anyway, I just wanted YOU to Know that This is NOT the End of Your Journey.
IT'S THE BEGINNING OF A BEAUTIFUL NEW ONE!
Sincerely, PeteyB

Petey.....You are such a great guy.....What a lovely thing to say at the end of your note. (and what a generous thing to offer to do for Darrell, and I know that you would have somehow found a way to get it done.) You are going to do fine with your problems, because you have a beautiful heart. Hang in there, and stay with this forum. We NEED you!

Darrell,

I am deeply saddened to hear of your status but I am also happy to hear you are comfortable and getting the care you deserve. I am also glad to hear the herbal remedy has been directly dealt with as I was most anxious about flying to Mississippi to tend to your needs, my friend. eek

If there is anything you need or anything I can do for you I hope you know all you have to do is ask. I pray for you daily and have thought of you often lately.

I took a little vacation to Chile and even though it was touted as a fishing trip, we spent most of our time riding buses and driving south to see the glaciers and the ocean. I will give you a link in the next couple of days to see all the pictures.

God Bless you, Darrell, and may He comfort you and your family and fill your hearts with the warmth of His love.

Ed

Ah...if only I could get in my car and get to you with a bit of cannibis sativa...what a shame that our county will hand out methadone to help heroin addicts, (as it should) but will not ease you pain at this point...May the force be with you...

Darell,
You just made me laugh really hard when I read about your flowering Herb issue, and hoping not to fall in the shower. Thank you for that. I think everyone is getting so serious that they missed that. I have to tell you how much I appreciate you, you were one of the first people who addressed me and my fears on this site. I thank you for your support and kindness. Over the last year, I have purposely looked for you on the site, to see what words of comfort, humor and wisdom you have given. Be well and grind some Dorito's into your tube for me when you get the munchies!!!
All my Love
Jennie
