Thanks to the lady who gave me the info on how to find this forum. I'm 33 and recently dx'd with Stage 4a, T2 N2b M0 squamous with primary in the left tonsil. The tumor was relatively small but it had moved to 2 nodes that were removed and showed poorly differentiated cells as well as 2-3 more possible nodes that are showing up in the ct and petscan. The tonsils have now been removed and I have started my radiation and chemo. I have a beautiful wife and wonderful 19 month old son. I am very glad to be here and my prayers are with everyone. Good Health and Good Help to you. Lee

You will find this site to be extremely valuable in the years to come especially in the next 8 months or so. You will have many questions as you progess in Tx and it's best to add your Dx and Tx particulars under your signature so that you don't have to post them w/ each question.
Welcome to the BEST ORAL CANCER SITE in the world.

I had something similar to what you are having but my cancer was in my tongue and it had spread to 1 node in my neck. I did not have chemo but did suffer through radiation.
If you have not read it already, the most important thing you can do is keep eating on a very regular schedule to: 1) Keep you mouth muscles working -- radiation will make it increasingly difficult but you are much better off if you keep swallowing food. 2) Keep hydrated -- radiation will make the skin feel much worse than the worst sunburn you have ever had.
I don't mean to scare you with this but you will experience it. It is short term, although when you are experiencing it, it seems like an eternity. I used my sense of humor to get through it.
If you have any questions as they come along, you are in the right place. Ask us.

So far, so good:) I had a bilateral neckdissectin with two nodes involved on the left. Side effects are just beginnning to kick in with some soreness to my mouth and a little tiredness, but not so bad really. Chemo has been fine, with no side effects so far - I wasn't going to write that in case it tempts fate, but I find it good to hear from people who felt better than they feared!Good Luck and lots of positive thoughts to you and your family. My husband and our 9 yer old daughter have been fantastic and I am being well looked after - I am sure you are too! | | |
