Good luck on your treatments. My husband Ron is a two time survivor of oral Cancer. He was first diagnosed in 1975 when he was 29.he had surgery to remove part of his hard palate and a radical neck to remove the cancerous lymph nodes. He had a reoccurance in 2001 they think it was possibly due to the radiation he received in 1975. He had more surgery and thanks to medical advances in radiation he was able to take IMRT treatments. due to his surgeries and radiation treatments, he has lost most of his taste, swallowing is still and will always be difficult and he has limited opening in his mouth all he can wear is his obturator, no dentures. You really need to maintain your hydration and nutrition and not to mention a positive attitude which at times will seem like a very tough thing to do, but you will come through this, it just takes time.

Rowan,
Please be certain that someone runs a full thyroid panel on you before you start radiation. You need this base line so if you start feeling cold, tired, etc. years down the road, you know what YOUR NORMAL thyroid levels were. The range levels on the tests are quite broad and if you don't know what YOUR normal was, it takes forever to find the proper dosage to get back to YOUR normal.

Most CCC do this, but be certain YOU have a copy of the report so when you your own physician is doing follow up care, you can monitor it. Mine is checked every 6 months and I get copies of it so I can check the numbers. Do NOT take a answer that it is WITHIN NORMAL RANGE if you are feeling lousy. Check it against your pre radiation levels and adjust dosage accordingly.

Take care,
Eileen
