OMG am I ever scared. Just Dec. 4th, I find out I have SCC that has camped out on my right tonsil, soft pallet, and base of the tongue. I see the medical oncologist tomorrow morning. It looks like both Chemo and Rad for me to start soon. They cant feel anything in my neck-nodes, and chest x-ray looks clear. PET is scheduled. Rad oncologist is very optimistic but says a "rough road" lies ahead for me... Life changes in a heart-beat! I'm not ready to "go" yet! God help us all.

Hey Daniel,

I think the best way to deal with this si to get all of the information possible. You're certainly at the right place for it. Read around on the site & ask lots of questions. Being prepared has certainly made it much easier for me to get tyhrougfh this.

Daniel,

One step at a time. Has anyone suggested surgery? Usually you either will have surgery or they will tell you the Chemorad will take care of it but either way it is usually dealt with first. Then you get to the Chemo Radiation decisions. Again usually all of this takes place after any scheduled Pet scan. So heed the advice before...read as much as you can and ask any questions. Try not to get overwhelmed. All of us learned as we went through this but one of the benefits of this site is we will share our experiences with you. So as soon as you know more, post it and read the many responses. You will find this site to be very valuable.

Were here to help and as the others said, read alot to get informed. Ask questions to make your surgury vs Rad/Chemo decision. I am glad I choose Radiation, it was a sure thing everything is gone compared with the unknown of nodes in the neck.

SCC R-Tonsil T2 NO MO Dec 2003. Completed IMRT Radiation only to tonsils(72Gy) and neck(55Gy)March 04. Detected at age 50.
