I have been dealing with oral cancer (tongue) since 1992.Have had 8 surgeries and numerous biopsies.Every surgery obtains clean margins but the cancer returns amost every other year.See my MD at Sylvester Cancer Clinic on a regular basis,at least once every two months. Now talking about radiation. Need to get a second opinion.Any recommendations of a cancer center that does have a excellent oral cancer program

JStone - Where are you in SW Florida? I have never heard of Sylvester Cancer Clinic. We are in Sarasota. My husband has had 3 small oral cancers since 2002. They too had clean margins, etc. so he had been advised against radiation. His were on cheek and gum tissue. He did lose 3 teeth altogether with the surgeries. Have they discovered another SCC now? We use the ENT (he's very aggressive, surgically) up at Shands in Gainesville, but he also has local doctors that check him often. Thanks...JaneP

Husband: 3 SCC gum and cheek cancers 2002, 2005, 2006: surgery only. Scans clear after removal of small, well differentiated, non-invasive cancers. No radiation. 4th SCC lip diagnosed 4/13/07 - in situ, removed in biopsy. More lip removed 2/8/08 - dysplasia. 2 Biopsies 3/17/09 no cancer (lichenoids)

Dear JStone, It might be well worth the time and money to try to get to MD Anderson or the equivalent for a review of your case histories. You sure want the best available to talk to after what you have been dealing with. Amy
