I start 7 weeks of radiation 10 April and will have 3 chemo treatments during that time for Cancer at the base of my tongue and right neck lymph nodes. Hopefully that will be successful as I would like to avoid surgery if possible. Have any of you had similar experience and tell me what to expect? Your comments are appreciated.

I had tonsil cancer and was treated with IMRT and 2 Cisplatin treatments. I am a 3+ year survivor with few side effects. It wasn't an easy trip but things are fine now.

My cancer sounds just like yours. I had scc, base of tongue with two right side lymph nodes. Had 35 rad treatments, cispatin, taxol & 5fu chemo. I'm a year and 4 months out of treatment and still in remission. It will be a hard road, but is doable as the survivors on this site can attest. Any questions you may have, please post as we all love to help in any way we can.
Do you have apeg tube, or has one been mentioned?
What type of radiation are you getting, IMRT?
Hopefully you have a good support system. Keep the board informed if you can.
Hang in there.

Sorry to hear about your SCC. Hope you will do just fine. You found the right site at the right time. You will get very useful info from this site.
My brother also diagnosed recently with SCC and he completed 2 chemos (Out od 6) and 6 radiations (Out of 30) after undergoing a massive survery. This site is helping me a lot so far and I am glad I fond this.
