I just had my TORS lingual tonsillectomy yesterday. I thought I was going to be in the Hospital one night, but they told me it was going to be outpatient.
It went well, no complications, biopsy results in 4 business days.
I was feeling very tired after the the surgery, and of course I was having pain trying to eat or drink.
But, then I couldn't urinate, and it was getting close to the cutoff time to let me go home.
But with another intravenous bag, and a few more bottles of water, I was good to go. (No pun intended).
I was so happy to get home, and I managed to eat some egg salad.
Then the part I hadn't read about on this forum, THE PHLEGM!
Oh man, what a night! Up all night, clearing my throat, or at least trying. Then I looked on the forum to see if this was normal, and I see that it is.
I used Stef H's mixture to rinse, I think it worked better then water alone. (Solution of 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/8 tsp salt and a cup of warm water).
So I was planning on making some multi grain Quinoa cereal, and eating it cold, which I did for my previous painful laryngoscopy. But I think it would have been too thick.
I made soup with beef broth, orzo and canned mushrooms, and ate it at room temperature. It went down so easy.
Much easier then the egg salad, or the last time with the Quinoa cereal.
I am not bleeding at all, so knock on wood, if that continues to be the case, hopefully this recovery won't take too long, as long as the phlegm goes away in a few days.
Thanks again for this forum, it's such a blessing.

Im amazed at how quickly you came home from the hospital. Must be from the TORS surgery. Congrats on doing so well!!!!

You picked a great person to learn from smile Stef is one patient who did amazingly well going thru her treatments and recovery. How did she do it? She listened to everything everyone told her, paid close attention to every little detail and worked so hard to hit her daily minimum intake amounts... every single day! She's someone everyone who is in the treatment phase should attempt to emulate. She did so well I barely had to nag her at all. The recipe for the rinse you got from Steph should be one cup warm water, 1 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp salt. Unfortunately the salt usually burns like crazy (at least it did for me). Its perfectly alright to cut back on the salt, just do your very best to keep as much as possible in your concoction. Swish it around in your mouth/throat for 30 sec to 1 minute, spit it out and if you can repeat the process again. Do the rinses at least 4 times a day.

Be careful with quinoa, rice, bread, etc. Those foods are sticky and can lead to choking when tiny pieces get stuck in the back of your throat. The link below is to our List of Easy to Eat foods. These are foods arent spicy, they have a smoother texture and are easier to swallow than others. Make sure you talk with your doctor about what they think you should be eating.

Best wishes with your continued recovery.

Thanks Christine. Yes, I see that I have to be very careful with the food. I was doing well, then I had a couple of dried figs, and had a long coughing fit.
Maybe due to the little seeds, or the bits of fig that can be sticky.
So far, the cold broth orzo soup went down the best.
I have been putting off dairy, maybe I'll try some instant breakfast tomorrow.
Thanks for correcting the rinse formula also.
